Like many others, including myself, I have become a follower of this trend. And why not? It's a timeless and effortlessly fashionable choice. Of course, that's provided you find the perfect pair amidst the myriad of Mary-Jane styles available.

Prior to discovering VIVAIA and Rothy's, most of the Mary-Jane shoes I encountered were made of smooth leather, resembling traditional flats, and often felt rigid and uncomfortable. They required extensive breaking-in periods, resulting in painful blisters. As someone who values comfort above all else, I was highly skeptical. However, luck was on my side when I stumbled upon the comfort-focused brands, Rothy's and VIVAIA, both offering their own versions of Mary-Jane shoes.

As shown in the images, I received both pairs around the same time and put them to the test. Both are machine washable and breathable. However, aesthetically speaking, I found myself leaning towards VIVAIA. The adjustable buckle on the strap adds a touch of intentional design, distinguishing it from Rothy's strap, which resembles a mere strip of fabric. Additionally, the V-cut opening of VIVAIA's Mary-Jane design stands out among the crowd.

Furthermore, not only is VIVAIA more affordable than Rothy's, but it also surpasses it in terms of comfort. The insole is filled with a yoga mat-like material around the heel and forefoot, providing enhanced support. In contrast, Rothy's insole is flat internally. Walking on the pavement, I noticed a noticeable difference in arch support and slight structural heel feel. The square toe box of VIVAIA's Mary-Jane shoes offers more room compared to Rothy's, making them a better fit for wider feet. Coupled with the specially designed adjustable strap, there are no concerns about foot swelling while wearing these shoes.

Overall, I personally believe that VIVAIA offers better value for money and fashion-forwardness compared to Rothy's. If you're seeking a more versatile and groundbreaking option, akin to Alexa Chung's style, I think selecting VIVAIA's Mary Jane shoes would be an excellent choice.
